Boy (Rahul) meets girl (Samantha) and falls in love with her. Initially girl not interested. But she goes through a change of heart. There is no particular reason for that. She decides to move in with him. Both are software professionals.
Their work takes them to Hyderabad. When they leave for Hyderabad, they are very much in love but on their return they have fallen out of love. So they decide to part ways. Enter villain, (Harsha), who is sought after by the police. He ties them up and forces himself in their house. Of course, finally the bad guy is caught and yes, you guessed it right, the girl goes back to the boy. Curtains down.
There is nothing significant to write about this film, the debut venture of cameraman, Ravivarman, who has written the script besides directing the film. The weak script falters and poor editing makes the story disjointed. Samantha's and Rahul's character as the hero Moscow and heroine Kavery lacked individuality. The two actors fail to impress. Harsha plays the villain, a smart looking one, but with little to do.
By the way, what was the idea of making Santhanam sport different colored wigs? His comedy tracks bordered more on vulgarity. The audience is also tired of the same kind of delivery from Santhanam.
The script of Moscowin Kaveri lacked clarity. There are too many questions left answered. Several jigsaw pieces just don't fit into the story. One thing that made you sit up was the good cinematography. And that's all about this film.
Moscowin Kaveri story is about two lovers who are as different as Tamil Nadu’s Kaveri and Moscow’s Moscow River. The Moscow River is cool and placid, whereas Kaveri River is warm and has strong currents. After a career spanning 11 years as a cinematographer, Ravi Varman is becoming a director with his first movie Moscowin Kaveri. After wielding the camera in Malayalam, Telugu and Hindi, Ravi Varman got a break in Tamil in Cheran’s Autograph. Then he worked with popular directors like Shankar in Anniyan, Gautham’s Vettaiyadu Vilaiyaadu and K.S. Ravikumar’s Dasavatharam. He will manage the lens and call the shots as well in Moscowin Kaveri.
Moscowin Kaviri Movie Review:
Produced by Ramesh Babu, this movie was launched way back in 2007. It had its share of difficulties and is finally ready to weave magic on movie buffs. This film will be distributed by Aascar films. Ravi Varman maintains that though Moscowin Kaveri was started three years back, the story is so fresh that it will surely appeal to today’s generation. One look at the trailer and we can see Ravi Varman’s work at his best. Every frame and even the characters look refreshing.

The film has created quite an expectation as it was a debut for many talented youngsters including the director. This was (and is) supposed to be music director Thaman’s first movie and so it was for Samantha. Thaman, since Moscowin Kaveri, has done a few Telugu movies and Tamil films too. His work in Eeram and the recent Thillalangadi has been appreciated. Even in Moscowin Kaveri, he has given a couple of chartbusters. Samantha too has come a long way since. With VTV and Baana Kaathadi making her a popular actress, she surely adds charm to the movie. So with these youngsters already successful, it adds to the expectations of the movie.
The movie has Rahul Ravindran and Samantha in lead roles with Harshavardhan and Santhanam supporting them. Moscowin Kaveri also has director Seeman in an important role. Vairamuthu has penned the lyrics while Anthony has taken care of the editing department. With a support crew so strong, MK will focus to hit the bull’s eye.
Moscowin Kaveri will showcase love in the eyes and minds of today’s youngsters. It is about how they perceive love, their activities, style and approach. The crux of the movie is to show people that love is not always a pleasure, but it also about pain and sacrifices. Though we have heard about such a storyline before, it is the treatment of the story which will make Moscowin Kaveri a must-watch, sources from the unit reveal.
Bubbly & Cutest Samanth, who rose to fame with the success of
"Ye Maya Chesavo" a remake of "Vinnai Thandi Varuvaya" was introduced by Gowtham Vasudev Menon to the tinsel town.
This chirpy girl is the hearthrob of today`s youth. She was spotted during a commerical ad, by none other than cinematographer-turned-filmaker 'Ravi Varman' He happened to see her as one among the four girls who had a charming face and appealing personality. He trusted that she will defintely make it big in the industry and this chirpy girl proved it.
Samantha`s upcoming flick 'Moscowni Kaveri' is directed by Ravi Varma in which she shares the screen space with Harshavardhan & Rahul Ravindhran. Music is scored by Thaman
The movie plot is about the strange relationship that the hero and heroine of this film share inbetween. These two different personalities happens to meet in life and what happens to them forms the story. It potrays the deep love, along with a message to the society.
'Moscowni Kaveri' will soon hit the theatres
Acclaimed cinematographer Ravi Varman debuts as a director in Moscowin Kaveri, a title that connects the Russian river Moskva with the South Indian River Kaveri. MK was in the making for quite some time and has finally hit the screens and its anachronistic feel can be perceived in many places. Although this film is the debut
Moscowin Kaveri
vehicle for the cute Samantha and the handsome Rahul Raveendran, the former is already known to movie buffs, thanks to VTV and Baana Kathadi.
The fast-paced lives of software professionals, their colorful lifestyles and impulsive behavior is the premise of MK. Moscow is the name of the hero and you guessed it right, the heroine is Kaveri. The title is justified out right. Kaveri is from village but is a city dweller with a plum software job in Chennai. Moscow is also a village boy but appears to be a rich orphan and is also a techie in the city.
Moscow sees Kaveri and it is instant love. He pursues her but is rejected. However, after a couple of melancholic moments and a seemingly remorseful act by the hero, Kaveri comes to his village and accepts his love. The reason is flimsier than a muslin cloth – her friend says that it is hard to find a good boy and it is sensible to accept someone who wants you rather than the other way round. Now, haven’t you heard this innumerable times in so many films?
Anyway, the couple gets together and Kaveri moves in with Moscow as she finds it difficult to live without him. They are live-in partners which do not go well with the neighborhood (some streak of reality here) and they buy a beautiful mansion in ECR in the blink of a well curled eyelash. The ride after this for the couple is bumpy and what happens to them after this is narrated by bringing in a villain Harshvardhan (YG Mahendran’s son) accompanied by a few lessons on life.
Director Ravi Varman scores well with his lens but flounders as a director with his inconsistent narration. Most of the scenes are illogical, ambiguous and appears disjointed. Was the film edited too much? The characterization of lead artistes lacks depth and is jumpy. It is hard to believe a girl with a rural background to go in for a live- in relationship and do a complete somersault in the climax with a mere sentence from her dad.
Rahul Raveendran looks every bit the suave software professional. Samantha is fresh and emotes well too. Harshvardhan, as the most feared criminal, does not have much work except walking around in debonair suits and a few weapons in a short duration. Why is Santhanam there? With his hideous wigs and loud dialogues, he tries to tickle us. His track is completely disjointed. He appears to be reasonably rich but is a van driver. Come on, Ravi Varman, please credit your audiences with some amount of intelligence!
Music director Thaman impresses with his work. The lyrics of some of the songs clearly indicate its old timeframe. Nee Ondrum Azhagi Illai number reminds of Aval Appadi Onrum from Angadi Theru. The lively gore gore number is missing in the film.
The visuals are appealing and are very aesthetic, thanks to cinematographer Ravi Varman. Although the theme is around live-in relationships, the director has delivered it clean sans any vulgarity. The major plus point in the film is its short duration (100 minutes) and thankfully the ordeal comes to an end soon.
Cinematographers rising with a new avatar as filmmakers have been considerably successful. Say for instance – Balu Mahendra, Santhosh Sivan, Thankar Bacchan and many more. The latest to join the bandwagon is cinematographer Ravi Varman. The definitions of his title ‘Moscowin Kaveri’ was interesting and had kept us high on expectations. It was all said to be focalizing on the changing perception of love by contemporaneous youth cohorts working in IT sectors.
But Ravi Varman scatters away from this point and comes up with a film that is so flimsy, weak and uninteresting.
The egoistic conflicts between a guy and gal have been delineated from ancient ages of Tamil cinema. It’s a must understand situation for all filmmakers that it isn’t something that popped up because of emerging IT era.
First 20mins into the film, you’re sure to wriggle your heads on what’s going on. Maybe, the intermission point drops a second thought on walking out. The first half (45mins) doesn’t even establish the basic plot. Irrelevant segments and disorder narration are sure to get us graveled.
The film’s central characters Moscow (Rahul) and Kaveri (Samantha) are like poles standing apart on every aspect. So silly to see the same old pettifoggeries ‘“ I want to get the rooms painted my favorite colors; I want to take rest, I don’t like your food etc’¦etc’¦ The difference of opinions and contradictory views leads to their alienation. Oops! Within next 15mins before climax a convict (Harshvardhan) wanted for several murder cases breaks into their house confining them as hostages. A police officer, whose wife and baby were killed by the same person, is on the mission of trapping him.
Nothing to blame on the story as even a simple tale can be polished well with a nitty-gritty screenplay. But Ravi Varman seems to have gone astray as the film doesn’t get a proper shape. Ravi Varman’s visual pictorials are splendidly done and there’s nothing to blame on that.
Over-graded colors and unwanted props in the frame like bunches of fruits, colorful elements does make things artificial. Thotta Tharani’s art work is fantastic while Anthony’s rookie editing could have been avoided.
Newcomer Rahul looks cute and has a great way to go. In few places, he seems to have imitated Madhavan’s style of dialogues while Samantha looks beautiful. Y. Gee. Mahendran’s son Harshvardhan could have chosen a good script and challenging role. His character is so unrealistic and blames Ravi Varman for that. Santhanam’s part during second half makes the film going at mediocre while ‘Boys’ Manikandan doesn’t get prominence and Seeman’s cameo role is good.
Technically, the songs by Thaman are nice and lyrical lines by Vairamuthu are appreciable.
On the whole, ‘Moscowin Kaveri’ runs short off a good script and gripping screenplay. The last 20mins of the film has some interesting moments, but an ordinary climax creates aversion amongst audiences.
What works: Music, Santhanam, good looking lead actors
What doesn’t work: Story, confusing screenplay, direction, editing’¦
